Subject: #2123: Help with Bass Boat

Submitted by Mark L (12.26.69.43) from ALABAMA on 1/14/06 7:45:14 pm:

I need some help! I cuurently have a 16' Alumacraft MV Angler that I use for fishing club Tourney's in the area. All reservoirs here are electric only. My current set-up is (2) Riptide 101's on the back and (1) 80pd Bow mount. I have a total of 8 group 29 size Everstart maxx marine batteries. Right now the boat maxes out at about 4.6/4.7 mph per my gps. This is with a full load of tackle, livewell, and 2 people.

I am thinking of adding another 101 to the back or going to the Briggs e-tek. $650.00 vs. $1800.00. Does anyone have any suggestions? I would like to hit 5.5 to 6 mph if possible.

Also, I have read quite a bit on the increased eff. of a kort nozzle. Does anyone know if this can be fitted to these motors or if anyone makes them?

Last question. Would having 3 riptide 101's on the transom cause a large steering issue being that all 3 props would rotate the same way? Please give me any feedback you can! Thanks in advance!

I understand your problem. I have 2 101's also and they are on a 14 foot boat. I am planning to go to the outdoor electric motor which should solve the problem. I wonder if anyone out there is using it and could give us his or her opinion?

    Tim

There is a guy who fishes the reservoir here with two 101's on the back and a 101 bow mount and gets 5.5 - 6 mph. I would run 1 rear and the front on a set of 6, 135 min 6V golf cart batteries and run the other rear on 3 12V. I have a 48V Ray on a 16' Lund that goes around 6.5. Their website is rayeo.com. The etek motor you are referring to is only available short shaft so make sure you have 15" transom if you choose that option. I had a single 101 on the back of mine until last sping. If I had it to do all over again I would go with the additional 101 on the bow and save my money. They are good motors.

I tried a kipawa prop on my 101 last winter. It was not molded to the proper tolerance and the hub of the prop rubbed on the end bell of the motor. 30 minutes of running and it fried the control board. $220 repair. If you try a kipawa be certain to does not rub the endbell before you try it out.

Aaron thinking about rigging up a reservoir rig, you said you would go with additional 101's was that opposed to Ray Electric. Whats your recommendation?
